From Pinot Noir to Snow

Isaiah 1:18

Though your sins be like scarlet, they may become white as snow

A few weeks ago I was putting laundry in the wash and I heard Davis yell out. I couldn't understand what he said, but I knew the tone meant it wasn't good. I walked back into the house and he blurted, "Don't walk into the living room! I broke a glass and there is wine everywhere." It was true. He had knocked a glass of wine off the end table and it shattered and the wine had gone everywhere. It was on the wood floor, the rug, and up the side and arm of the light grey upholstered chair. I took a deep breath and went to get my arsenal of tools. I grabbed some hydrogen peroxide, a cloth and some upholstery cleaner. I hoped for the best, but prepared myself for the worst. I thought - the chair is grey, you'll be able to see the red but not too bad.

I scrubbed and scrubbed. The next day after it had dried I looked and couldn't see a single drop. I was pretty shocked.

After this experience I definitely can appreciate this verse even more. It's one thing for our sins to go from a little smudge to clean, but to go from pinot noir to snow… that's a miracle.

And the even more incredible part, God says, "Come now, let us set things right." This isn't just and offered, it's an invitation. An invitation to freedom, beauty and peace though the forgiveness of our sins.  And it doesn't matter how dark that scarlet is or how much broken glass is around it. The invitation is there. Just accept it!
