Acts 11:20-21
There were some Cypriots and Cyrenians among them, however, who came to Antioch and began to speak to the Greeks as well, proclaiming the Lord Jesus. The hand of the Lord was with them and a great number who believed turned to the Lord.
If someone asked you to describe yourself in three words, what would you say? I'd probably say, mother, christian, grammarian. Just kidding. I'm not sure what those three word would be exactly, but I don't know if "evangelist" would be one of them.
But if you think about it, if "Christian" is one of your words, shouldn't that automatically mean you're an evangelist? In Matthew Kelly's "Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic" he interviews the 7% that he has found make up the very active part of the Church. His research found that evangelism is a regular part of their faith life. Does that have you shaking in your boots, fearful that you'll have to go door to door telling people about Jesus?
But get this - During the interviews, the 7% were asked about the latest Christian book they had read. They would start talking about the book and the they would be asked where that book was now. As often as not they looked confused by the question. They were then asked if the book was on their bedside table, on a bookshelf, or somewhere else in the house.They would respond that they had given it away to a friend. They were then asked about the best teaching CD they had ever heard. "Where is it now?" They'd would all respond - "I gave it away."
That opens my eyes to the many ways we can evangelize, because in it's most basic form, evangelization is sharing something you're excited about and believe in. So think outside the box today on what has affected you in your faith life and how you can pass it on. Maybe it's Spirit FM!
