Eat My Word

By Abby
I was yelling at my radio this morning....

Isaiah 55:10-11a

Just as from the heavens the rain and snow come down And do not return there till they have watered the earth, making it fertile and fruitful, Giving seed to the one who sows and bread to the one who eats, So shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth;

I was yelling at my radio this morning. During Food for the Journey, Sister Ann was recounting a time when she was reading scripture, praying that God would allow her life to bear fruit from what she read and she heard God tell her, Eat My Word. She agreed with Him, Yes, Lord. I'll eat your word. Take it in, etc...

She moved on in her prayer and then got this nagging feeling that she had to come back to that command, Eat My Word. She said she knelt down and proceeded to argue with God in a dialogue of sorts. As she's recalling this I'm thinking, "No. C'mon. You're not going to eat the paper. Don't EAT the bible!" Sr Ann said it was as clear as day. She grabbed a scissors, cut out the verse (I found a little comfort in that, that it was only a small piece), folded it, asked God one more time, Eat it? He replied, Eat it. Then she chewed & swallowed it. She said that symbolic act was huge for her.

Are you willing to let the living word of God into your life so it can bear fruit? Could you actually cut out a verse and eat it? God isn't necessarily asking all of us to snack on paper, but He is calling us to read and digest that love letter that he's written to us. And He doesn't want us on a starvation diet - we need to consume it every day! He promises it will bear fruit and not return void. Just maybe needs a bit of ketchup.
