Down and Dirty

By Davis
It's safe to say that my mother should have bought stock in...

"For you know the gracious act of our Lord Jesus Christ, that for your sake He became poor although He was rich, so that by His poverty you might become rich." - 2 Cor 8:9

It's safe to say that my mother should have bought stock in Tide° Detergent when I was a kid. I would spend much of my days having adventures with my friends in the "woods" near my neighborhood. Don't even get me started about the rotten orange battles we fought in the groves next door! But as much as I loved getting into dirty situations as a kid, the thing I liked the most about it was that I was able to get clean after. I never really liked dirt, I just happened to do things that made me dirty.

Anytime I think about Jesus becoming human I can't believe God loves me so much He was willing to get dirty for me. (And stay dirty for 33 years because the Middle East in biblical times couldn't have been the most hygienic place.) It boggles my mind that the Creator of the Universe would give up everything so that we could have a better relationship with Him. But that's exactly what He did.

How can you mirror Christ's willingness to step into poverty to those around you today?

Lord, thank You for showing Your love for me by stepping into my messy life and loving me for who I am. Dirt and all.
