There is a video of a man holding a small dog like a chihuahua and he speaks of how petting his dog when he is tense after a long day's work helps him relax. Wonderful, except that when he is talking about the benefits of having a dog to pet, and petting the dog's head, it is growling and nibbling at the owner's fingers every time it is touched. It is meant to be amusing, and I think it is hilarious.
Are we like that dog in our relationship with God? Our loving Master "holds us" and keeps us close but we often bite back at the very hand that is protecting us. As we rest today in the Spirit of our Loving God, let's remember to forget the times we have turned away form Him, and spend time praying and looking for ways we can return to God by doing what is right and just so that we do not become like the dog that when it is comforted and petted, growls and bites back.
