Jesus said, "Amen, I say to you, there is no one who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands for my sake and for the sake of the gospel who will not receive a hundred times more now in this present age. Mark 10:29-30a
My parents used to put me and my sister in summer enrichment classes. One year I took a Bulls and Bears class. Nope, not zoology. It was all about the stock market. I can't say I retained much of what I learned (I think I bought stock in 7Up) but I did learn a little about investing. Regardless of what I remember, I know it doesn't take a genius to recognize a good deal.
If someone said, "Whatever you put in, you'll get a hundred times more back" you'd say, "Then let me give even more!"
But we don't. We see this promise from God and still hold tightly to all the things we think bring us comfort and safety. We hear his promise but we are so afraid of the pain or persecution that comes along with it that we would rather have what is less.
Question for Reflection
What are you holding on to that is keeping you from having the fullness God has promised you?
Lord, help me let go of whatever it is that is not allowing me to fully embrace the life you have for me. Let my love for you be stronger than my fear.
