If Jesus were born today, would we see a King? Would we hear the angels sing?(Christmas hymn, "If This Child Were Born Today") Jesus invites his disciples and us to "come and see", to experience the peace and joy that comes with a new life in Christ, and like this psalm of David, we too can wait for the Lord who will hear our cries and place a new song in our hearts. If we set our hopes and security in God and not in the arrogant ways of the world, we will find hope and true peace.
From the words of Archbishop Fulton Sheen, the Wise Men knew enough and were graced with the holy wisdom to take a different route after they adored the Infant Jesus, perhaps because after an encounter with God, it was impossible for them to return to their previous ways. May it be so with us, that afer we spend time encountering Jesus in the scripture and song, we too may find it difficult to return to the way we were.
