There is a diifference between childish and childlike. My youngest son proudly announced at the dinner table, when he was 3 years old, what he was going to give up for Lent.(childlike) He had it together while the rest of us were sheepishly deciding whether or not to say out loud what we may give up because then of course if everyone knew it then we were held accountable. (slightly childish) The youngest said with much confidence: "I'm giving up socks!" To which I replied: "Wait, you hate socks and you never wear them.." And with the wisdom of his 3 years, he replied back: "You're right! Why would I give up something I like?" (still childlike)
I still laugh when I think of his innocence. I hope that as we prepare for the upcoming Lenten season, we will prayerfully decide what we can do, or gvie up, or think about and learn, that will bring us closer to God and to a deeper more vibrant faith, not worrying about what others may think or say about it.
