Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus.
It's amazing to me that the name of Jesus is so widespread. Think about it for a minute, when the Apostles were told to share the story of Jesus there were no printing presses, no radio or television, no internet or social media. All they had were stories and their feet. They didn't even start writing about him until decades later! Yet here we are in the 21st century and even people who don't believe Jesus is God know His name!
That is the just a little glimpse of the power in the name of Jesus. Here is where my mind gets really blown, I carry that name! When we identify as Christian, just like the apostles, we carry the name of Jesus to those who have not heard or do not believe. That is a great blessing but also a great responsibility. As we anticipate the coming of Christ at Christmas we are given the opportunity to accept his name anew. Our challenge this Advent Season to is to think about how I carry the name of Jesus into the world. Do my actions speak love, kindness, humility and grace?
