John 20:28
Thomas answered and said to him, "My Lord and my God!"
I have so many reasons to be grateful for St. Thomas. We celebrate his life today and I think I could write 10 different reflections on this story. I'll just take one thought though- the fact that Thomas wasn't there when Jesus appeared to the other apostles - was that his misfortune or part of God's plan? I'd argue it was the latter.
If every one of the apostles had encountered Jesus in the same way and had the same profession of faith, their collective testimony wouldn't be as powerful. God didn't plan for cookie cutter disciples. And he didn't plan for us to be the same either. Some of us have grown up loving Jesus and always knowing exactly who he is. Some of us have stumbled along the way or maybe just encountered Him for the first time last week.
Whether you're a Peter who could recognize that Jesus is the Christ or a Thomas who missed the news for a while and then took some convincing, embrace that YOU are part of God's plan for sharing the Gospel.
