Whoever exalts himself will be humbled;
but whoever humbles himself will be exalted."

How contrary to society's norms today to see this expression of humility! Many of us pride ourselves on being independent and in control. We want to take ownership of our lives and seek the best we can for ourselves and our families. Hmmm, now let's look at a definition of humble. The humble person does not have to say: "I am not that great" , rather a truly humble person does not really think of themselves at all! They may have many accomplishments but they do not feel the need to brag about their lives or jobs. That humble person does not have to lower himself or herself to be seen as less important. In fact, being very self deprecating and calling that humility can be a trick of the mind, and lead to a false humility.
Let's pray today especially for our brothers and sisters along the Gulf Coast who are feeling the effects of Hurricane Harvey, and reflect on how we can practice real and honest humility. Pehaps there is already a way we can help out with the clean up efforts that will be so necessary for the Texans and all those in this storm's path, and if it is too early yet for that, we can certainly pray and offer up some good deeds.
