Once I tried to squeeze a jogging run in between thunderstorms. I had checked the weather carefully and missed the timing because suddenly I was caught outside in a park when a storm rolled in off the bay. For a few moments I was really stuck. I didn't know where to go and I couldn't stay in the lightening. Anyone who has been outside in a Tampa thunderstorm knows how quickly it can get intense. I found a shelter and stayed under it wondering if it was even safe enough. I felt helpless and frightened. Then the storm blew through and it was calm again.
When I read Peter's reply to Jesus statement : Do you also want to leave? Peter answered with this question. Peter knew Jesus was the real thing, the Holy One of God and that Jesus would keep them safe. In that moment Peter was certain yet didn't Peter also deny that he even knew Jesus three times? Are not we the same? As we walk through storms of life and the times of clear skies, times of doubt and times of certainty let us allow God to remain in our hearts through it all.
