Be Sure To Ask

By Elle
Andrew and Peter asked Jesus a question as a person would ask another person, but not as a person can ask God.

One of his disciples,
Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, said to him,
"There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish;
but what good are these for so many?"

John 6:8-9

Andrew and Peter asked Jesus a question as a person would ask another person, but not as a person can ask God.  When we ask a person a question, we expect an answer that we understand.  When we ask God a question in prayer, do we expect an answer we think we should understand?  Why? God is bigger than our questions and he is bigger than our expected answers so let's don't limit His ability to work in our lives by answering our own questions in our petitioning prayer time.  Let's don't tell God what we need. Let's pray with an open mind and let God provide.

Peter and Andrew saw with their eyes the five barley loaves and two fish, and they expected there would not be enough food, but that is not the answer Jesus had for them.  When the boy looked at the men, he may have prayed that he wouldn't get in trouble with his own family when he gave away the only food he had.  Since everyone was fed, I wonder if blame from his family was not the answer God had in mind for the young boy.  For today, let's examine our own "asks" and make sure we are not limiting or not letting God work fully in our own lives because we simply don't have enough, or think we are not good enough or not worthy enough, or whatever reason we come up with for limiting God.
