Daniel 9:9
But to the Lord, our God, belong compassion and forgiveness, though we rebelled against him
Recognizing the sin in our life is not an easy or fun adventure. I can't count the number of retreats or spiritual talks I have experienced where I was challenged to take up the practice of a daily examination of conscience. Taking a look at my day and seeing where I have failed my God. I also can't count the number of times I have begun the practice only to peter out after a few days or weeks. But I keep getting up and trying again. In today's readings we see Daniel lamenting about Israel's failure to follow God's ways. I love that the full excerpt from this chapter in Daniel looks a lot like our practice of Lent. Then in the Gospel reading
(LK 6:36-38) We hear Jesus remind us how merciful our God is. And he instructs us to be that merciful in our own lives. So today as we continue our Lenten journey let's take a look into our daily lives and see where we have failed God. Then remember that we have a compassionate forgiving God who is waiting for us to seek reconciliation with him.
