The new song "Confidence" by Sanctus Real has lyrics reminding us of Old Testament heroes: So give me faith like Daniel in the lion's den,Give me hope like Moses in the wilderness, Give me a heart like David, Lord be my defense, So I can face my giants with confidence!
We are called to announce to those around us that Jesus is alive and that God is with us! He did promise we would reap the joy that no one can take away if we renounce our selfish desires and follow Him. Let's be clear here: I can speak for myself, and say that is not always easy, especially when one of my family is ill or suffering, or even after a particularly grueling week. Jesus did not promise us perfect lives, but I hope we can maintain our confidence, and be like Daniel, Moses, and David, like Joseph, Mary, and all the holy saints who lived before us facing battles of their own, in their respective times. In our moments of weakness, let us turn to God and even ask the intercession of our own patron saints. God's promise of everlasting life for us is permanent, He deosn't offer His love to a select few. He desires the best for us. May we never turn our backs to Him and the love He has for us, even in the face of human betrayal, or even as we face our own battles.
