Back in the Day

By Elle
Oh Paul!  These letters he wrote so many years ago are still so relevant today..

I have learned the secret of being well fed and of going hungry,
of living in abundance and of being in need.
I have the strength for everything through him who empowers me.

Phil 4:13-14

Oh Paul!  These letters he wrote so many years ago are still so relevant today.  In our fast paced, fast food world, it may be a good time this weekend to sit back and rediscover the fundamentals of what makes us strong.  Is it having everything our way, when we want it, without delay?  Or is it the ability to wait, to seek out the truth, to decide on our own important decisions?  Just like Paul taught his beloved people back in the day, we too can read today's First Reading from the Mass from Phil 4:10-19, and teach those around us either with our words or through our example.  If we are in line, and someone behind us has kids or is pregnant or on cruthces, how about letting them through first? Or if someone cuts us off driving, how about saying a prayer that they find patience or get where they are in such a hurry to go safely?.

To be content with all things, in times of abundance and in times of scarcity is to have the joy of Christ in our hearts.  It doesn't mean things will be peaches and cream, or pumpkins and spice, but it deos mean if we take these words to heart, that we will know the source of our true strength.
