Awesome vs Merely Mortal

By Elle
On August 21st, a solar eclipse will be visible throughout the midsection of the country.

"When the disciples heard this, they were very much afraid. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, "Rise and do not be afraid."

Matthew 17:6-7

On August 21st, a solar eclipse will be visible throughout the midsection of the country.  As one of God's most awesome sights, the moon will completely cover the sun. The sun's corona, its atmosphere, will be visible within the path.  In Florida, we will be outside the total eclipse path, but will see a partial eclipse. When we think about the awesomeness of God, do we include natural events?

Matthew's gospel is the Transfiguration of Jesus.  Peter, James and John fell prostrate at the sight of the glorified Jesus and were awestruck, not kneeling in a contempletive adoration, but simply fallen at the sight.  I like this scripture verse because as we know, Jesus is always watching after us mere mortals.  He came close and touched them, reassuring them to not be afraid, giving them the holy confidence they needed to compose themselves and get back up.  Jesus will do this with us too.  Let's take some time today and reflect on God's love for us and thank God for giving us the gift of Jesus to help connect the awesomeness of Him to the merely mortal.
