"They were saying to one another, 'Who will roll back the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?'" - Mark 16:3
Happy Holy Saturday! As a reader, it's exciting to watch this scene play out. The women who went to anoint Jesus's body knew what He'd foretold about His death and resurrection, but still they mourned, probably out of confusion or uncertainty and most definitely out of sadness. But they didn't let the sadness keep them from going to Jesus to pay their respects.
But there was also the tiny matter of a boulder. What would you have done? I can hear my own voice saying, "That big rock is there and we can't move it. There's no point in going. Let's just stay here in bed and be sad." Is there a big rock that's keeping you from seeing or even approaching Jesus? Is there something that's weighing on you - a fear, a sin, some heartache - that makes you want to hide instead of step out to go to Him? Well, that rock has been moved. The obstacles, the debt, the distance... Jesus took care of them all.
What stone has been rolled away in your past and what still is standing between you and Jesus?
Lord, help me to always focus on Christ instead of the obstacles. We know there's nothing You can't do.
