When they sow the wind, they will reap the whirlwind.
We had a great lazy Sunday last weekend. We watched three movies. As a mom of two energetic boys, I never believed this day would come. One of the movies we watched was Jurassic Park. I'm always amazed by the lack of foresight of some of the characters. How could they possibly think this would end well? Yeah, I know. It's fiction.
The first reading for today's mass contains a great idiom: When they sow the wind, they will reap the whirlwind. Meaning, if you deal with dangerous, unpredictable or fickle things, you will get less than good things in return. You'll end up with wreckage. If you try to harness velociraptors, you'll regret it.
How are you sowing into dangerous, unpredictable or fickle things? Addictions leave you worse off than when you started down the path. Lying to get ahead at work gets you caught in a web of deceit.
Make a change by choosing to sow into one good thing. Pick one way you can invest your time or gifts into something that honors God or shows his love to the poor or broken. It will pay huge dividends (in addition to not getting eaten by a velociraptor).
