Are You A Post-Truth Christian?

By Abby
Yesterday on the morning show we talked about the Oxford Dictionary word-of-the-year...

Luke 21:8

He answered, "See that you not be deceived, for many will come in my name, saying, 'I am he,' and 'The time has come.' Do not follow them!"

Yesterday on the morning show we talked about the Oxford Dictionary word-of-the-year.  It's "post-truth." Last year it was the laughing-till-you-cry emoji, so good for us that we are back to the word-of-the-year actually being a WORD. Well done, humans! Basically, "post-truth" means a situation where an appeal to emotion outweighs objective truth. It was chosen mostly based on Brexit and the presidential election. I know a lot of people who, when asked why they were leaning towards a particular candidate responded with purely emotional reasons. I don't like the other person. I'm scared to see what would happen if he or she wasn't elected. Lots of emotions - fear, disgust, anger… and a lot of those feelings were based on the campaign and what the candidates put out there regarding their opponent.

Jesus is warning us to not be "post-truth" people. Don't fall into the trap of emotions like fear or the next charismatic attention-getter who is speaking false words. Instead, be people who live in the objective truth that yes, one day Jesus will return and we are called to live each day like this could be the one.
