War broke out in heaven;
Michael and his angels battled against the dragon.
The dragon and its angels fought back,
but they did not prevail
and there was no longer any place for them in heaven.

St Thomas Aquinas wrote about angels that they are pure spirits and appear in bodily form, such as when we see Raphael in the guise of a young man to be the companion of the young Tobias. I think that regarding angels, what I don't see could possibly be to my advantage, because if I ever were to get a glimpse of my guardian angel, I might be so afraid I'd faint!
We can thank God today for the presence of angels all around us, and as we journey, let us not forget we have companions, invisible they are, but nevertheless companions that are always among us. And if you are looking for a prayer intention, let's pray for the angels that protect our communities, our neighborhoods, our country. Becoming aware of spiritual battles as they exist among us, can help us not to be caught "off guard" or by surprise when we are tempted.
