Sirach 17:4-5
and gives him rule over beasts and birds.
He created for them counsel, and a tongue and eyes and ears,
and an inventive heart,
I've watched a blue jay build it's nest from my porch, and I wondered if I could build a nest like that. Ha! It's not as easy as she makes it look! It is so intricate now, as it has developed from a few sticks formed as the base to a tightly woven basket shaped nest. To me, that's an invention developed from instinct that is inspiring.
What is an inventive heart? One that observes life and practices ways of love and patience to overcome the anger and harshness of the world? Is it the heart of one who finds new ways to make peace amidst conflict? As inventive as the blue jay is and as intricate as her nest is, only we as humans can have that inventive heart. One that practices the virtues sorely needed in our communities today. Let's ask God for the graces to find new ways by following the teachings of Christ, to communicate better and live in peace.
