Over the weekend. Davis and I saw Avengers: Endgame. Minor spoiler alert here. The movie picks up where the previous one left off, with half of living creatures being turned to dust. The half that remained had to rebuild their lives and Tony Stark, aka Iron Man has a daughter. While the rest of the living are mourning, he has a life that is really simple and beautiful.
When the new plan for saving the world is hatched, Tony says something that felt very spiritual. He says, "I got to tell you, my priority is to bring back what we lost? I hope, yes. Keep what I found? I have to, at all costs." He wants to fix the past, but not at the expense of what he has now. The destruction behind him has brought him to something beautiful.
In today's first reading, we see Lot and his family being led out of Sodom right before God destroys them. Then his wife makes a really bad choice and looks back. She turned to look back at a life of sin instead of looking ahead at God's promise and saving grace.
Many of us can look back at destruction or pain in our past and wish that things could be different, but just like Tony Stark, we should recognize the blessings that we are in the midst of right now. Look forward to see where God is leading us next and try our best to walk that path, not looking back.
