Oh those double negatives! So rereading this we are told (again) that we know the truth (and the truth will set us free Jn 8:32). These days in the news there is so much back and forth, and especially in politics and diplomacy, alot of differing opinions. It seems I read one news agency after another declaring competitor agencies to be spinnning "fake news". So where do we go from here? How about the basics?
As the new year begins, it is time for us to take back the Gospel messages and scripture readings and really seek to understand the relevance of what Jesus preaches and why. In the time of Jesus, there was no central news agency and I can imagine the conflicting tribes in that land that fought over land rights or families. Jesus had for them and has for us a message of hope, of joy even in the midst of trial and hardship, of love and even of trust that we need more than ever today. We need to continue to stand strong and be sure the rights of those most vulnerable in our communities are valued. We need to pray for peace.
