"No slave is greater than his master." - Jn 15.20
No slave is greater than his master is without doubt one the strongest sentences on the bible, and one of the most misunderstood. I have used this sentence many times as consolation when I have been criticized or when my projects have been dismissed. I must be honest and confess that many of the times, if not most, that I have used this phrase, it has not been out of humility and detachment. I think it was rather in a tone of reproach, as if saying, "am the slave of the Lord and you have disqualified me, but I am not greater than my master". I think I have put more emphasis on the slave and not on who really matters, which is the Master, our Lord. So, while I have been meditating on this reading I have been wondering, Gustavo, who is your Lord? Could it be that you are serving yourself and used the Lord only as a pretext to relieve your hurt pride? Could it be that from so much proclaiming yourself a slave you have become the master? Could it be that your ministry is your master? Could it be that you have made the Lord a slave to your whims? Today I invite you all to have the courage to look into your hearts and discover who is you master. You might be surprised!
Who is your master? Are you proclaiming the lord or are you proclaiming yourself?
Lord help to understand that you are my master.
