Lent is a very special time in the life of the Church, a time when we recognize that we are works in progress. Part of this is knowing that there are areas of life that still need to be handed over to God on a daily basis. In doing so, we sacrifice our own desires for the sake of the one who knows what's truly best for us. Sometimes this can feel unpleasant, like abstaining from meat when we really want a burger. In training our bodies to give up things for His sake, we can grow in discipline. That discipline can carry over into our spiritual lives as well and help us grow in holiness. This Lent, think about what God is truly calling you to give up for the sake of His kingdom.
