What's the Hebrew equivalent of, "Wait, what!?" I imagine that's what a lot of the disciples were thinking when Jesus first related this principle to them.
Romans 12:14
Bless those who persecute [you], bless and do not curse them.
What's the Hebrew equivalent of, "Wait, what!?" I imagine that's what a lot of the disciples were thinking when Jesus first related this principle to them. Notice, as Paul reiterates Christ's teaching, that we are called to go beyond just not retaliating. We are told to bless those who do us wrong. This is so contrary to our natural inclination that when we actually put it in practice it can feel like a very bitter pill. That's one of the many reasons why we need God's grace. We were never meant to be everything God wants us to be purely by the force of human will. That's impossible. We are meant to allow His love to flow through us out into the world around us, to the people that we encounter, even to our enemies. So, if you're having trouble blessing those who do you wrong today, remember to ask for God's help. Let His grace work in you.
