Trust the Shepherd

By Sister Marlene
The headlines are horrible!  Earthquakes, terrorism, hurricanes...

"Know that the Lord is God, He made us, His we are; His people, the flock He tends." Psalm 100:3

The headlines are horrible!  Earthquakes, terrorism, hurricanes... not to mention the fourth surge of the global pandemic!  What is happening in our world?  Why is all this happening?

It is good to pause, breathe deeply, and take some time to reread the psalm in today's mass... God made us!  We are His people, the flock He tends!  That last phrase makes me think of the line from the hymn, "Like a Shepherd, He feeds his flock..."  The sheep trust their shepherd, rely on him for all things, even their life.  And the shepherd... he is there for the sheep, even to the point of laying down his life, if need be, for them.

Perhaps I need to examine my own virtue of trust.  Do I trust that the Lord who made me has a plan for me?  Even when things are most difficult do I trust that He is true to His word, to be with me, always?  Do I seek Him, in good times as well as in times of difficulty?

Psalm 100 also exhorts us, "Give thanks to him, bless his name, for he is good, the Lord, whose kindness endures forever, and his faithfulness, to all generations."  My kind, good, and faithful God walks with me. Lord, give me eyes to see You and Your works, and help me to spread Your hope and Your goodness.
