But Moses said to God, "Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?"

 

Moses, no doubt, is one of the greatest figures in Scripture. His leadership of the Israelites out of Egypt into the promised land and bringing the Ten Commandments down from Mount Sinai are both huge events in God's plan of salvation. But in this verse and in the verses that surround it, we learn how unsure he was of himself. Some say it's likely he had some kind of a speech impediment, which likely fed into his lack of confidence. Sometimes we can feel the same way when God sets tasks before us. We take a quick inventory of ourselves and don't see how we can be used by God in such a way. However, it's important for us to remember that while God does use our skills to accomplish His will in the world, it's God who empowers us. The most important aspect of being called is who is doing the calling. If God is for us, who can be against us?
