So much has been written about Mary Magdalene, fiction and truth, but the truth of her story has much more meaning for us who also seek Jesus.
From Scripture we know that Mary loved the Lord greatly and rejoiced in His presence. We are told that there has been great confusion about her, but that she is not the sinful woman who washed the feet of the Savior with her tears and wipted them with her hair. Another misconception: she is not the sister of Martha and Lazarus.
Mary Magdalene sought Jesus, even after His death on the cross. Despite her devastating grief she was first at the tomb, first to discover its emptiness, first to converse with the angels and first to recount the resurrection to the Apostles.
The love and devotion of Mary Magdalene have much to teach us. Even in the bleakest of times, we must continue to search for the Lord of life. Despair is not where hope can be found, and even when we are temporarily blinded by the events which surround us, the Lord can come to us and restore us with a simple love-filled word.
Do I continue to seek the Lord, even when it appears He is far away?
Good and gracious Lord, fill my heart with Your love and peace. Let me know that I am never alone, that You are always with me. Help me to seek You always.
