And Mary said: "My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior." Luke 1:46-47
Today, the Catholic Church celebrates the Assumption of Mary. This is the ancient belief that, when her earthly journey was complete, Mary was taken up into Heaven. However, this doctrine is not accepted by many Christians. Wherever you stand on the Assumption, all who follow Christ can and should look to Mary as a powerful example of what means to be 'all in' for Jesus. As a young teenager, the trajectory of her life was drastically changed by the revelation that she would bear the Messiah and raise God's only begotten son. Think of the weight of that responsibility! Yet she shouldered it with supernatural grace. God, the source of this grace, wants to offer His grace to us also in bearing our burdens. We don't have to do it alone. The source of Mary's strength was the same Lord that walks with us today.
Question for reflection:
How can I live my more fully, looking to Mary as an example?
Lord, help us to live totally for you as Mary did.
