Matthew 5:19
Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
It's safe to say that Jesus is a generally popular figure. Even people who don't necessarily believe He's the Son of God still admire and respect Him. One of the most popular things Jesus ever taught was to love your neighbor as yourself. But what kind of love does Jesus mean? Some misunderstand the love he championed as some kind of affection or general kindness. This misses the depth of what true love is. True love wants what's best for the other, even at the expense of our own comfort or even lives. This is the spirit in which these verses should probably be taken. God gives us commandments not because He wants to spoil our fun or just likes enforcing rules; He does so because He wants us to live our best life and wants what's best for us. When we have a tough time following Him, I think it's important to remember this. God is on our side!
