G.K Chesterton has a great quote I love about the Christian life, "The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting. It has been found difficult; and left untried." Sometimes being a Christian can feel like a constant battle. There are so many messages fed to us daily by pop culture that seem to conflict with the Gospel. However, I think the biggest foe (other than the Enemy, of course) we have to face is the one staring back at us from the mirror. We should always live aware that our sinful nature seems to sway us toward sin. We have to ask our Lord to help us persevere against 'self'. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and as family members gather around the table, conversation could inevitably turn toward politics. Of course, things may get heated. At times you may feel as steamed as that bowl of Brussel sprouts on the table. But we should always remember to keep our sinful desires in check. Don't let pride, ego, or the need to be heard get in the way of this precious family time. Persevere in patience this Thanksgiving and let that patience lead you into greater holiness.
