Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary

By Sister Marlene
Today's Memorial celebrates Our Lady of the Rosary...

The Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name.

Luke  1:49 (Responsorial Psalm)

Today's Memorial celebrates Our Lady of the Rosary.  Who among us has not turned to Our Lady under this title, in times of distress?  The young woman who proclaimed the great things that God had done for her, in turn, is trusted to do great things for us, as we turn to her with our needs.  A young girl her future seemed predictable, but then she was thrust into a whole new paradigm.  Her words, "be it done to me according to your word," changed not only her future but ours.  Her heart knew Joy, but it also knew Sorrow. The figure of the Stabat Mater, at the foot of the cross on which hung her Son, is indelible.  And yet, persevering through it all, led to her triumphant entry into heaven and her coronation as Queen of angels and men.  As we accompany Mary on her journey, we cannot help but know that she accompanies us, too, on our journey.  Through joy and sorrow, good times and difficulties, Mary is there to comfort and console, to encourage and support us.  She too has walked this path before us.  She, too, has experienced great love and great sorrow.  She is always there to lead us home. Holy Mary, Mother and Queen, be my strength, my companion, and my inspiration.

Mary, Queen of the Rosary, teach me to better understand your life as I recall it in these mysteries.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray with and for me.
