Luke 24:32b
"Were not our hearts burning [within us] while he spoke to us on the way and opened the scriptures to us?"
These disciples had a lot to talk about on the road to Emmaus. With all that had happened in the last few days, I imagine they hearts were troubled. Their savior had been beaten, crucified, and sealed in a tomb. But sadness of that day was tempered by a hopeful report from the tomb, that He had been raised. In the midst of that confusion, Jesus meets them on the way offering clarity and comfort. This personal encounter with Christ, culminating with the breaking of the bread, changes the disciples' perspective. In our lives, we'll face lots of distressing and confusing times. God wants to meet us in those times and offer His peace and clarity. In doing so, Christ may not necessarily make these "roads" less rocky but He may make them easier to travel by giving meaning and purpose to the hard journey.
