Matthew 7:16a
By their fruits you will know them.
In this section of Matthew, Jesus is speaking about false prophets and how they can be identified. Specifically, he directs attention to the fruits of their teaching. I think we can also use this to evaluate ourselves. If we are living our faith authentically, we will produce good fruit. I think with most of us the worry is not that we are producing bad fruit but that we may be producing no fruit at all. Take some time to think about how the way you follow Christ is effecting your own heart and the world around you. If your faith has become stagnant it may not be producing much positive fruit in yourself and in the community. The good news is that God is ready and willing to change that! Dive into Scripture, put together a prayer routine, go on a retreat... there are tons of ways to revitalize your faith. Here's the key: the closer you walk with Christ, the more fruit you'll produce (no pun intended).
