Imperfect Evangelization

Matthew 10:5-6

Jesus sent out these twelve after instructing them thus, "Do not go into pagan territory or enter a Samaritan town. Go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."

Is it easier to talk about Jesus with non-Christians in your family or group of friends, or people who you don't know? Sometimes, sharing your faith with strangers can be simpler. This can be especially true if you came to Christ later in life and lived a somewhat unsavory life before you came to Jesus. Maybe this is why the Lord told the 12 to start spreading the Gospel among the Hebrews first. This may have included people who knew them before they were called, people from their tribe and families, people who knew their flaws and weaknesses. We often like to portray an image of ourselves as a baggage-less and perfect Christian. We think it just makes things less complicated when sharing our faith. I think being open about our flaws and weaknesses can actually help our evangelization efforts. Christianity is not for the perfect; it's for those of us who know we mess up and who know we need God's grace.
