Matthew 18:15

If your brother sins [against you], go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have won over your brother.

 

God would be the ultimate H.R. rep. Think about it. Who would be better at managing interpersonal relationships in a workplace than the author of all life? In this verse and the ones that follow, Jesus tells his disciples how they are to handle conflict among them. Notice what He says the first step should be; they are to meet with the other person alone. There are so many benefits to pursuing this strategy first; one being that you quell the temptation to gossip. The quicker you clear things up with someone who wronged you directly, the less likely you are to talk about them behind their back and damage their reputation. In this world of Twitter wars and Facebook rants, we would do well to take this advice to heart. This will also allow the other person to admit they were in the wrong in the most face-saving way possible, lowering the possibility of feeling their pride has been wounded. Next time a friend hurts you in some way, you may want to take advantage of God's advice and go to them first. The friendship may even be the stronger for it.
