Matthew 15:33-34

The disciples said to him, "Where could we ever get enough bread in this deserted place to satisfy such a crowd?" Jesus said to them, "How many loaves do you have?" "Seven," they replied, "and a few fish."

"How many loaves do you have?" It's an interesting question given the situation. As the Son of God, Jesus could presumably cause food for the crowd to just appear out of nowhere. He doesn't really need those loaves and fishes to feed the crowd. I think one of the reasons he took inventory of what was available is because He is eager to involve us in His work. He used what was provided and multiplied it to feed the crowd. God can do a similar work through us if we let Him. The time, talent, and treasure we offer to the Lord opens the door to God doing even greater work for the Kingdom. It's also encouraging to see how small the offering of seven loaves and a few fish was in comparison to the need. Jesus can do great things with what we offer, no matter how great we think that offering may be.
