Giving up is underrated. We often feel a lot of societal pressure to finish what we start and to see things through to the end. This is not a bad thing. Some of the things that we find the most difficult to accomplish can be the most worth our time. But if you take some time to think, I bet you can come up with a few things that you wasted too much to time on: a short-lived hobby, an unhealthy relationship, etc. God does not want us to waste our time but He understands that we sometimes do. In this passage, God is reminding us that there may be other 'gods' we choose to give our time to but he is the only one worth our time. He is the one true God. Maybe you're treating your job as a god, maybe it's money you're treating as a god. Take some time to really dive into what you've tried to replace the one true God with in your life and give up on making it your god.
