Generations

By Vivi Iglesias
Have you gathered with your family in anticipation and hope when a new baby is about to be born?...

"Thus, the total number of generations from Abraham to David is fourteen generations; from David to the Babylonian exile, fourteen generations; from the Babylonian exile to the Christ, fourteen generations."

Matthew 1:17

Have you gathered with your family in anticipation and hope when a new baby is about to be born? Joy fills the air, and gratefulness for the health of the mother and child is immeasurable. Yes, the moment is truly overwhelming and the love and happiness that are felt are contagious and pure! This is the exact moment when a new generation is born, and when the older one recalls the birth of another in their family line. In the Gospel today, we remember forty-two generations that came before Jesus. Forty-two families with hopes and expectations that were all fulfilled in that one child. Let us never forget that feeling, and as we await once again for the birth of our Lord, we pray for each generation that came before him, we pray for our parents, grandparents, and others who dreamed of a special child’s blessing.  This Advent let’s take time to connect, to accompany others, to be thankful, and to remember the overwhelming love that gave life to the Son of God. A child destined to save the world.  Soon Christ will be born, the Son of God will come, and once again, we will gather in expectation to pray for the future of the world.

Can you recall the names of loved ones, key people from generations before you that have inspired you?

God, help us to never forget those who came before us, their love, traditions, example, and dreams as they have formed the person we are today. We pray for the young and their families, and future generations, that they may find inspiration in You.
