Proverbs 30:5
Every word of God is tested; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
Have you ever seen an illustration of a fairy tale knight fighting a dragon? One of the most common ways to depict this epic battle is to have the beast breath fire at the warrior and it being held at bay by the hero's tiny shield. It seems so me that, if one was going to face a dragon, one were equip themselves with a bigger defensive tool, since you probably know the dragon breathes fire. Notice the knight feels confident enough in his shield to protect him against a blazing onslaught of burning breath. I think there's a parallel here in how we often see God's protection. Just like someone like me might point out the flaws in using a small shield to repel dragon's flames, sometimes we see the protection and defense God offers us as somehow not strong enough to protect us from the onslaught of the world. We're too quick to forget the dragons He's protected us from in the past. Let's always remember that God always gives us what we need to fight what the world throws at us. So let's face our dragons with confidence!
