Courageously Saying Yes

By Br. Lucius Amarillas
Throughout these weeks of preparation...

Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.

Luke 1:45

Throughout these weeks of preparation, the Scriptures have presented prophecies of a coming Messiah along with accounts of Jesus' birth and genealogy. Today's readings offer not only a prediction of the coming Messiah but also a testament to the extraordinary courage of Mary, as Elizabeth acclaims.  The coming celebration of the Lord's Nativity cannot be told without the story of Mary's courage or her "yes" to the Lord despite the unknown ahead. Imagine how distressing Mary's decision was; yet, she said "yes" and "believed" what the Lord spoke.   Life's circumstances often challenge our trust in God, and too often, we look to ourselves rather than to the unselfish example of Christ or the courage of Mary.

As we prepare during this final week to celebrate the coming of Christ, why not consider imitating the courage to believe the Lord's promises and say "yes" to Him where He calls us, where our communities under Him depend on us? The Christmas shopping seas

Son of David, open our minds and hearts to you, that we may believe what You have spoken to us!
