The choice fell to Matthias...who was added to the 12 Apostles

To "take the place of a betrayer" doesn't sound like something to be known for, but that is why St. Matthias is known and celebrated. Today's feast day liturgy is filled with richness.
After Jesus is betrayed by Judas and then crucified, died, buried and risen, the Apostles feel like they need to fill their number to the sacred #12. In the Acts 1:20-21 they ask God for guidance and "the choice falls to Matthias...who was added to the 12 Apostles." Like the Responsorial Ps. 113, "The Lord will give him a seat with the leaders of His people" the Gospel Acclamation connects all this to us! "I have chosen you to go and bear fruit that will last." Jn. 15:16
We have been chosen and need to follow Jesus--live in the Spirit; become more like Jesus-- bear fruit of love, gentleness, compassion, mercy...
Jesus tells us in the Gospel "As the Father has loved Me, so I have loved you. Live on in My love. You will live in My love if you keep the commandments and live in God's love" Jn. 15:9-17 We will know Joy IF we do.
I invite you to Reflect on it: Jesus calls us friends. He's chosen us! He loves, supports and moves us to service. Proclaim the good news with your life. Live the Gospel! Use words when necessary. Remember--YOU're Chosen!
What difference does the awesome truth that You are loved/chosen by Jesus make in Your life?
Faithful God, help us be aware that we are chosen in Christ. Help us live by the Spirit and bear fruit for the Kingdom. Amen.
