We live in a pretty cynical time. Institutions and organizations that once enjoyed the confidence of a large share of the public now find themselves the objects of suspicion and derision. We don't have to look much further than the Church for an example of this. Abuses, breaches of trust, and in some cases, out-right cover-ups have tarnished its reputation in almost irreparable ways. But even in this time of darkness, we need to remember the promise Christ made to His Church, that "the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it." In the midst of betrayal and scandal, the Church will stand. It may be bruised and beaten down, but it can never be destroyed because of whose it is. It is God's Church and it's in Him that we should place our trust.
How can trusting God's promises bring you peace?
Lord, when I encounter instances of scandal inside and outside your Church, help me to not be shaken but trust in your goodness.
