I am a teacher and always will be, even if not in a classroom. I invite you to encounter God in the Scriptures. The Church gives us this special time and special lessons we call Lent.
Lent is already one week old. In Ps. 51 we pray, “A clean heart create for me, O God, and a steadfast spirit renew in me.” God can make us new/renew our strength IF we cooperate. Lent is a blessed time to remember this.
We meet Jonah early in Lent. If you read the book of Jonah, you can see we are like him--we want God to do it our way; we listen selectively. Praying with the Scriptures can help us listen, become like Jonah and go with the 2nd chance God gives.
In the reading today about the sign of Jonah, God warns the people to repent and when they turn from evil, they don't suffer the deserved punishment.
God is so good and calls us to repent; we are to Be-come all we are called to be. May we keep turning/returning.
St. Benedict said it wisely, "Everyday should be a Lenten observance." We Benedictines practice "Lectio Divina" reading/reflecting on the Word of God; it helps us build that relationship with our gracious and merciful God.
Remember, Repent, Return, Renew

Loving Lord, today may I take time to practice the 4 R's *
Help me become like Jonah and go with the 2nd chance You give, and pass it on.
