Zealous Preaching

By Isaac Cruz
JESUS CHRIST IS RISEN! Alleluia!...

God raised this Jesus; of this we are all witnesses. Exalted at the right hand of God, he poured forth the promise of the Holy Spirit that he received from the Father, as you both see and hear.”

Acts 2:32-33

JESUS CHRIST IS RISEN! Alleluia! Today’s reflection comes to us from St. Peters famous address to the crowd in Jerusalem. For context, this takes place following the appearance of the tongues of fire and the descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles and them receiving the gift of tongues. In the event that follows, the crowd believes them to be drunk and this is where we find St. Peter addressing the crowd. Here he preaches with ZEAL! Would you expect anything less from our first pope? The man watches the brutal crucifixion, only then to see his Lord, OUR Lord rise. He Watches Him ascend into Heaven and finally, he receives the promised gifts of our Advocate. Yes, it is safe to say that he is fervent in his desire to spread the word (his fervor converted 3000 people that day) and we should feel the same.

Yesterday, we celebrated the same Lord rising from the dead. We watched catechumens and candidates be sealed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and we all renewed our baptismal promises. With our first pope as an example, let us also zealously and fervently spread the message of Christs resurrection!

Where can you courageously preach the truth today?

Holy Spirit, move in our hearts to give us the same zeal as St. Peter as we go forth to courageously preach the gospel.
