Jesus said to his disciples: "Stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come."
The Advent and Christmas seasons are my favorite time of the year, and always have been. That's probably true for most of us. My reasons have changed over the years as I have matured, but they still remain at the top of the list. When I was a child, I couldn't wait for Santa Claus to come, and wake Christmas morning to the bounty of reward for my being "good" for most of the year….becasuse we all know Santa keeps an extensive list. That date of December 25th was engrained into my mind and circled on the calendar. I was confident in his appearance, and I'd try to stay up all night to get a peek. Inevitably my body was stronger than my heart and I would succumb to sleep. I never saw him, but often heard him. Why don't we have the same attitude for Jesus and his return? We have been promised that He is coming back, that if we're good, we'll get our reward, and even if we slip up, we're still saved through his grace. Unfortunately we don't have that same attitude. He's going to give us something better than a shiny new bike, a rocket ship, new clothes or a new computer. He's going to give us eternal life with him…a gift greater than any man made, disposable item. The only thing we take with us when we die is how we've lived. How are you living your life? Is it worth the cost of what Jesus did for you on the cross? Live today as if he's coming tomorrow, because you never know…..He might even be making a list and checking it twice…..
