You Are Delightful

By Nicholas Gunn
Today's responsorial psalm points to a very simple truth that is at the very core of Catholic spirituality...

"The Lord takes delight in his people, honors the poor with victory."

Psalm 149:4

Today's responsorial psalm points to a very simple truth that is at the very core of Catholic spirituality. The Lord takes absolute delight in each of us in a way that we could never comprehend. There is a reason for your existence in this world and that is the fact that you were worth creating in the eyes of God. This is the view of the world in which Christians are meant to approach life, and all of our decisions and affective movements need to stem from this reality. If you have ever sensed in a believer something that was different, or a peace of mind that you would pay any money for, I would be confident to say that they are whole heartedly convinced of God's delight in them. This is a realization that we must fight hard for to achieve and then maintain. Take inventory of how convinced you are of this fact, and put to death anything that is keeping you at a distance from it. Remember, there is no positive thinking and negative thinking when it comes to God's view of us. There is simply the truth of the matter which we read in the Psalms today.

What assumptions or self-criticisms do I have that keep me from recognizing the Lord's delight for me?

Heavenly Father, continue to delight in us and let us bask in the warmth of your gaze.
