Willing to Receive the Lord

By Kody Dahlke
In today's Gospel reading, Christ's disciples were having...

Luke 9:48

...and said to them, "Whoever receives this child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me. For the one who is least among all of you is the one who is the greatest."

In today's Gospel reading, Christ's disciples were having a discussion about who was the greatest among them. Sensing their frustration, Jesus brings over a child and tells His disciples that they must humble themselves enough to serve a child in Jesus' name to be considered greater over others. In the chaos of everyday life, we sometimes forget what it means to be a follower of Christ. Not only are we privileged to have the Holy Spirit in our lives, we are also called to serve others as a means of developing a closer relationship with our Lord and savior.

Today we celebrate the memorial of Saint Jerome, a priest and doctor of the Church who translated our holy Scriptures into Latin. The Latin Vulgate has been used an authoritative source for translating many of the bibles that exist in the world today. When we are willing to receive the Lord into our lives at any cost, the fruits of our labor can become greater than we could ever imagine.
